New Year, New Look | Ashy Blonde Hair Color & Process

Hi everyone, hope you're having a great start to the New Year!

Sharing details on how I got my hair to this ashy blonde color, as well as my outfit-of-the-day today :) Technically, I got my hair done at the end of November in 2017, but this will be my first time sharing more about the hair color and process on the blog!

Hair Color & Process

While scrolling through Instagram one day, I came across a talented hair stylist named Kacie in San Jose, CA. She goes by the handle @hairbykacie1, and if you take a look at her page, youโ€™ll see that sheโ€™s done amazing hair color jobs - especially for those who want ashy hair. Her and another hair stylist named Priscilla, both at Sunkissed Salon, did what they call a Global Bleach session to get my hair to this color. It involves bleaching your whole head for a few hours, an Olaplex treatment (which rebuilds broken hair bonds and repairs damage done by intense chemical hair treatments), and depositing the ashy hair color.

Youโ€™ll notice that itโ€™s darker at the roots and the colors blend further down - this was done to prevent from having too much of a color contrast once your natural root color starts growing out. The whole initial process took a good 5 hours and it cost $500, not including tip. My hair didnโ€™t hold the ashy color very well the first time, so I actually had to go back to get it toned a month after I first got it done. All in all, I really love how it turned out and would like to maintain this color for as long as I can (Kacie and Priscilla, you guys rock!). My friend Sarah and I recently filmed a video to share tips on how to maintain this ashy hair color, so stay tuned for that soon :)

OOTD

Jumping right into my outfit-of-the-day now! I saw this amazing distressed denim jacket (similar here and here) made by a brand called Signature 8, and I knew I had to add it to my wardrobe. The acid wash and frayed hems give the jacket a vintage feel, and the studded faux pearls decorating the shoulder areas make this jacket one-of-a-kind gem. It's hard for me to want to wear my other denim jacket, now that I have this one!

I wore this denim jacket with an ultra soft and fluid bodysuit from Aritzia. I love tucking in t-shirts into my bottoms, and this bodysuit does the job for me effortlessly. It has a scoop-neck design and the garment slightly drapes for a relaxed fit.

I completed this outfit with a pair of comfy black jeans from Paige (similar here), my Gucci soho disco bag, Aldo booties, and a Michael Kors cognac belt!

What do you guys think of my new look? Feel free to ask any questions about the hair coloring process in the comments below. If you request for a hair appointment with Kacie at Sunkissed Salon, please let her know that you heard about her on The Chic Diary! :)
